Gregory Benford & Larry Niven – Bowl of Heaven

Bowl of Heaven est issu de la collaboration entre deux grand maîtres de la science-fiction, Gregory Benford (auteur la série Galactic Center) et Larry Niven (célèbre pour son Ringworld), que j’adore tous les deux! Un vaisseau d’exploration humain rencontre par hasard dans l’espace un Big Smart Object, à la fois immense structure habitable et vaisseau interstellaire. C’est un thème passionnant, et les auteurs se font plaisir à livrer plein de détails techniques sur cette structure spatiale. Par contre j’ai trouvé un peu long et sans grand intérêt la description de dizaines de races d’extra-terrestres qui peuplent le Bowl. Mais bon, ce sont quand même des auteurs géniaux, et j’avoue que j’aimerais bien une suite après Shipstar, pour en savoir un peu plus sur ce qui se passe sur Gloria…
